Maclaren Volo Umbrella Stroller Review

Maclaren Volo Umbrella Stroller Review

For 2016, I’m kicking off with a new review on my blog! This time, I’m writing a thorough review on a Maclaren stroller. Maclaren has always been known for producing luxurious and heavy duty products, which is why when they released an umbrella stroller line, anyone and everyone wanted a piece of the action. And now, the same goes for the Maclaren Volo umbrella stroller.

Here’s a quick run down of what makes Volo stand out:

  • Basic Weight: 4.3kg/ 9.5lb
  • 1 Seat Position appropriate from 6 months and up
  • Waterproof Hood: Improved hood tensioner with stay back” feature
  • Square, extra-large for maximum coverage.
  • All mesh breathable seat
  • Includes Raincover and Carry Strap

Dimension: 42.1 x 15 x 6.3 in

A Closer Look on Maclaren Volo Stroller

If you want a Maclaren for a stroller, there are lots of models to choose from. One of those is the Maclaren Volo. Now the question is, what sets Volo apart from the other options? Here’s the thing, if you want a solid companion for your baby, yet light both on weight and budget, then Volo is your go-to pal!

The Volo still carries its brand’s signature look. From afar, anyone can easily spot and recognize it as a Maclaren’s. But this one looks a lot smaller than its bigger siblings like the Techno XT or the Quest but slightly bigger than the Mark 2. After all, the Mark II is the lightest among the whole bunch. If you look closely, there are some noticeable differences from the other line ups, wherein this one has slightly bigger canopy and its seat has no full and thick padding. But we’ll get to that a bit later.

The Maclaren Volo comes with multiple color variations that will fit to your taste. You can go with the classic black color, a white with a hint of a different color of your choice on its mesh seat or its eye-catching color of fuchsia. It’s actually good to either go for a classic black or the girly fuschia as both colors are not too easy to get dirtied, however those variants are more limited and harder to find these days. Nevertheless, its white variant still looks as chic yet more pristine. You just have to keep it clean which fortunately for you, its seat is removable and washable.

The Maclaren Volo promises durability and a worry free trip with your baby. Its body is made from aircraft grade aluminum alloy to ensure better strength for longevity. And yet despite that, it still manages to keep it just about 9.5 pounds in weight, pretty awesome indeed! The dual wheels ensures mobility over any terrain and makes a bumpy ride seem smooth. And as I mentioned, its seat has no padding, the base has hard support while the back and side are made of mesh. This allows better airflow to keep your baby cool and feel cozy despite the sunny weather. The seat is also removable and washable so make sure to clean it regularly to avoid exposing your kid to germs and bacteria. Storage isn’t a problem with this bad boy because of the spacious storage basket under the seat with pockets found on its apron.  The ergonomic handles are padded as well while the extra large canopy provides better shade than the rest of the other Maclarens. Oh and by the way, the canopy is waterproof and has UPF+50 for additional protection against harmful UV rays.

More Features

Unfortunately, it only has 1 seat position which is a huge downer if you’re in the market for better reclining capabilities. And with that said, it should be used with babies age 6 months and above, while I recommend you to use this if you see that your child can sit on its own. Nevertheless, it still stands true to be a reliable and capable stroller. It can support kids of up to 55 pounds which is above than average umbrella strollers you can find on the market, and you can still use it even as your child has grown older and well, heavier. Since it is lightweight and has a carry strap, this makes it truly easy to carry around in public places. Not to mention, folding and unfolding it is also a breeze. And when you buy this product, it includes a wind resistant rain cover so you’re still prepared for the sudden rain drops.

Price and Where to Buy

The Maclaren Volo is regularly priced at $150, but depending on the design or color variant that you choose, you get to have a better bargain for it. Sometimes they even throw in big discounts in places such as the Amazon where you can buy it for as low as 110 bucks!! But you’ll have to be fast as stocks for this awesome deal are limited and may quickly run out.

The Maclaren Volo offers a sweet deal considering you get to own and bring a Maclaren to any of your trips for a low price. Any parent will turn their heads on you and might even envy your stroller. I recommend you to buy your strollers from Amazon. Not only are they trusted sellers, they offer free shipping and return for their products most of the time. And they can deliver your items quick and hassle-free straight to your doorstep.

It’s not too often that you can buy a Maclaren stroller for just about $100 which is why I find the Maclaren Volo umbrella stroller to be a fine steal! But aside from getting dazzled by its name, the Volo is truly capable of supporting your baby’s need and comfort, and at the same time offers slightly better features than its competitors on the same price category. The money that you’ll invest in here will not be put to waste.

First Years Jet Stroller Review: First Love Hard to Forget

First Years Jet

They may be known as The First Years, but it is definitely not their first time to be recognized as one of the awesome umbrella strollers of all time. They are not even known for producing cheap baby essentials, but they are actually recognized for providing high quality products that can meet the needs of both parents and children. So when I learned that a First Years stroller is available at a low price, I quickly checked it out and as expected, it is just as amazing as the other ones and it comes to the form of The First Years Jet.

But first, Here’s a quick rundown features of the First Years Jet.

  • Durable Frame Rated for Use 6 months to 50 pounds
  • Taller handles and multi position recline
  • 5 point harness for a safer ride
  • Large parent console and lower storage basket
  • Easy one hand fold and weighs only 11 pounds

Dimension: 30 x 19 x 39.5 in

A Closer Look on First Years Jet Stroller

First Years Jet is actually my first umbrella stroller to try, fell in love with and gone to trips with my kid. It’s well-featured for an affordable and reasonable price, much like how the Summer Infant 3D Lite is currently doing. Although The First Years Jet may not have the complete feature you would see from most expensive models. But the Jet is in no doubt offers a lot more compared among its same price category.

First Years Jet, city chic

First Years Jet, City Chic

The First Years Jet is the bump down version of the First Years Ignite, which is why they highly resemble each other. But the Jet wears more of a full-colored design, widely popularized with its red-colored variant. Later on, it came with a full black-colored stroller similar with the Ignite for a classier look, which they called as City Chic as well. Its design is pretty simple and may not get much attention, but instead, it make your baby  stands out and bring those attention focus on your baby’s cuteness!

It has solid and durable frame. And since the materials and the frame have a solid construction, it may be slightly heavier compared to most low-budget strollers that weighs around 7 pounds. But those types usually don’t last long and tend to easily tip over. It also has some padding compared to other cheap ones that only have a fabric used for its seating. It also has 8 6″ diameter of wheels for better maneuverability and smooth gliding. And most importantly, it has good high handles which is great for parents with average height. For someone who is six feet tall, you won’t have a problem driving this thing as well. But for really tall people, you may start hunching over it slightly. Nonetheless, the height of the handle is really great and just about right which you don’t see that often with the low priced ones!

The First Years Jet still weighs a good weight of 11 pounds, just right to hold up our children and still light enough for us to carry it around. This thing also comes with a parent console, lower large storage basket and a canopy. But let’s face it, the canopy is not large enough to cover all the sunlight. Still, I appreciate its attempt since it is better to have some sun protection than none at all right?!

The Jet can also hold up to 50 pounds but is only recommended to be used with toddlers 6 months of age just like the regular ones. Its seat base is also wider than average so that’s a plus points on my book! Our little ones won’t feel to cramped on their seat, and it leaves some room for them to grow. Nicely done!

I know by now, you already have figured out that this is a keeper. But wait there’s more! This unit offers the 5-point harness that provides an extra safety feature for our kid. Plus, it has a multi-position recline to let our kids sit or nap more comfortably! With the Jet, every ride will be comfortable for us and our kids.

Price and Where to Buy

The Jet is worth buying and offers great value for each penny spent. It is as good as the other higher priced umbrella strollers. Initially, this is priced more or less around $60, but now that the manufacturer has discontinued its production, it’s no longer widely distributed and became seldom available. Now its price is playing around 100 bucks. But if you’re lucky you can find this at a good price from Amazon plus free shipping service.

If you are still unconvinced that this is an awesome stroller, then you can read all the raves from more than 600 happily satisfied users! This unit is a popular choice and one of the most demanded umbrella strollers then. In fact, it already got a high approval of 4.1 out of 5 star rating on Amazon. Lots of people have already spoken. The First Years Jet got the features you need and used to be one of the best cheap umbrella strollers. It’s heavy on feature and still leave you with thick wallet. So don’t get left behind and join the happy parents’ wagon while you still can!

Additional Note:

With very limited stocks available, it’s becoming hard to get a First Years Jet; not to mention, its regular price has also increased. The Jet is really a sweet deal, but lately due to its low supplies, I suggest you to also check out the Summer Infant 3D Lite instead as this will be your best alternative. It’s also featured among the best umbrella strollers of 2015.

A Closer Look on the First Years Ignite Stroller

First Years Ignite

First Years Ignite Classic Red

I was searching for an umbrella stroller when I stumbled to the First Years Ignite Stroller. Its low price is definitely one of its selling point and what also piqued my interest. It is priced with not more than a hundred bucks yet it offers features that are usually present among strollers priced around $150 and above. And since it was my first time investing on an umbrella stroller, I didn’t want to spend a lot right away while being unsure if I would use it a lot of times. Fortunately enough, my decision to go with the Ignite was totally worth it and made me to fully embrace the use of umbrella strollers!

First Years Ignite Designs

Due to its popularity, the First Years Ignite came out with various designs. You can go with a classic full-colored stroller or the ones with patterns on its seat. It even came out with a Disney umbrella stroller version called the First Years Ignite, Disney Minnie. But among all designs, the black and red color combination and all-black model called City Chic were by far the most well-received and stayed for a long time. I for one prefers the City Chic for a classier style that doesn’t get outdated and it wouldn’t looked dirtied easily.

The First Years Ignite is built with the latest euro styled frame and matched with the 100% Polyester material to ensure durability and endure wear and tear. It has a soft seat padding and is made with durable cushioned material so it’s really comfortable unlike others that only have thin fabrics. Plus, a great bonus most of you will be happy to know is that the handles are tall which is really great. My husband is around 6 feet tall and he can use it without me hearing a single complaint like having his knees or feet kicking the stroller. We both don’t get backaches since there’s no need to bend over just to push the thing. It also has a wider seat base when compared to strollers in the same price range. This allows your child to sit more comfortably, even for long walks, and still leave some room when your child grows. It has 8 large wheels, measured at 6″ diameter, with rear wheel brakes and front wheel swivel locks for a smooth ride and keep it in place when in full stop.

This is equipped with a 5 point harness which is one of the additional features I am really looking forward to secure my active boy from trying to play with the wheels and prevent him from doing face-plant when I hit a large bump. The wheels come with a tight turning radius, rear brakes and can swivel 360 degrees allowing for smooth maneuverability. And true enough, I can effortlessly push and turn it with ease. The wheels are also a little wider compared to average umbrella strollers, enabling it to be more stable and can take on different surface or flooring such as cobble-stoned, bricked and even terrain.

It weighs about 14 pounds. You can probably find others that are lighter than this, but its extra weight makes it a lot sturdier. As for me, the weight was never a problem. I still find it pretty light and easy to use when traveling. It folds up nicely and you can do a lot with it with just one hand. You can fold it, push it and maneuver it with just one hand.

The First Years Ignite can also recline far back and just right to allow your kid in a comfortable position to sleep or rest well after a long day. It also has a canopy but it is not too big that can cover almost the whole thing. But for me, it’s quite enough and it does the job just fine. It has a parent console and lower storage basket for extra space. The parent console adds more convenience as it provides extra storage that can hold some extra toys, snacks, small diaper bag. But because of the criss-cross design, it can be slightly tricky to access the bottom basket.

It will require you a bit of assembly but it is really easy and will not even take too much of your time. Once all the parts are fitted together, you are now ready to bring your kid to take on the world by storm! I find this as one of my top choice of best umbrella strollers since it can offer a lot of convenience and functions for the price and still provide the comfort for my child. But since this one cannot fully recline to 180 degrees, it is recommended to use this with your kid when they are equal or more than six months of age and it can hold up to a maximum of 50 pounds in weight. But even if you exceed a bit of its weight limit, it can still endure and will not fall apart easily.

Price and Where to Buy

It is packed with features for a reasonable price of around $80. But you can sometimes get it at a lower price from Amazon, which is why I like to make purchases from there because they offer the lowest price and they even deliver this straight to your door, mostly for free. Amazon is also a trusted online seller, provides excellent service and you can also find a lot of reviews from people who also bought it to help you make a better decision on your purchase.

The Ignite was really popular that it also received a high user rating score of 4.4 out of 5 customer satisfaction with more than hundreds of positive reviews! I really recommend this because this allows you to save up yet the features it offers feel like you bought an expensive one. However, like all good things in life, the Ignite is discontinued by the manufacturer so there are only limited stocks left in the market. Nevertheless, this is still one of the most recommended choice among parents before and even up to this day. If you’re lucky to chance upon its availability, I suggest that you buy it and don’t let it slip away. Should you buy the First Years Ignite Stroller, you will definitely not regret your decision. It is money well spent!

Extra Note:

Sometimes you can also find the Ignite with a bumper bar for an extra safety precautions to let your child rest their hands on it or hang their toys. And if you happen to like this but prefers to have lighter in weight and also in price, you may also want to check the The First Years Jet. Another amazing offering from The First Years, it is pretty similar in features such as 5 pt. harness, canopy, tall handles, parent console and lower storage basket but lighter weighing only 11 pounds and at a cost of around $60. A Closer Look On The Inglesina Swift Stroller

Inglesina Swift Color Variation

The Inglesina Swift Stroller offers 5 vibrant color variations to match to your style and color preference. But aside from overall look, the Swift undeniably packs a handful of useful features as well. Taking it out to use or keeping it stored will not get in your way. It folds up quite easily into a very slim form which fits in the tightest spots and also easy to throw in the trunk of your car and with a weight of only 13.2 pounds, it is so light you can carry it anywhere without getting tired quickly! This umbrella stroller also sports a great automatic lock feature and a convenient side carry handle for maximum mobility.

Aesthetically, I find the 2013 Swift Stroller models more adorable since it used to carry these subtle little bubbles that run all over it which generates this very cute and playful vibe! But this time, their design goes for a classic full color look, which I find pretty simple and common among most strollers. Don’t be fooled by its simple exteriors though, because this stroller pack a wallop when it comes to its features!

The structural frame is made of aluminum while the seat is made of 100% Polyester.  There is no problem with durability and I find the materials to be able to withstand wear and tear for several years. The polyester is soft to touch however, some have pointed it out that the seat may be a bit shallow or rather quite small to have any room left when your child grows bigger. You may get to use this until your baby reach the age of 3 years old or depending on his or her size. On the other hand, the company suggests to use this when your baby is already 3 months of age and up, with 55 pounds maximum weight limit.

Aside from convenient features for mobility which I mentioned earlier, it also has recline capability which is great for both nap time and for when your child is awake! The stroller reclines via rear sliders which are a lot easier to handle as compared to the tricky drawstrings that most strollers have.

The storage is something that is widely noted by people who have experienced using the Inglesina Swift Stroller. The nicely sized basket is a compartment with spacious area that you can actually use to fit your things. It can carry a lot of stuff without looking sloppy because of the well-crafted black frames which support the compartment.

The sun visor is huge enough to keep your baby cool during warmer days and it is surprising that a stroller so compact and lightweight has a canopy this large! The handles are well-cushioned and are fun to squeeze and the angle in which the handles are inclined feel very good to hold and are not uncomfortable at all! And the handles are also high enough to let tall parents push this without needing to hunch over too much or kick its rear wheels.

Where to Buy

And if all this is is not enough to convince you to check it out, the Inglesina Swift Stroller is actually one of the least expensive strollers from a trusted brand and well packed features in the market today. Talk about a great buy! It is available for not more than $139 and I recommend you to buy it from Amazon because they are already a huge and trusted online selling place. They also provide one of the best prices in the market with free shipping so you don’t have to hassle yourself having to go to malls. And best of all, you can read more testimonies from people who have also used this and Amazon provides excellent service.

There are still some room for improvements but the features Inglesina Swift offers are not bad at all. It can do plenty of essential and convenient things for us and for our babies, with just right for the price. Considering what others had to say, I’d give this an average satisfaction score of 3.8 stars out 5. Although I would suggest that you add just a bit more and you can get a more decent and stable umbrella stroller. With just 20 to 50 bucks difference, it’s better if you buy the Inglesina Trip Stroller, which I find more attractive than this. You can read my review about it on Best Umbrella Strollers that Recline.
